Dr. Gene A. Getz

“When I first read this material, my initial reaction was ‘WOW!’ Still is. This is incredibly creative, thought provoking, and unquestionably culturally relevant. Most of all, it’s intensely biblical! Believe me; what I’ve just shared is not rooted in hyperbole. This study will capture the heart of any woman who sincerely desires to discover true and lasting fulfillment in this life.” (Dr. Gene A. Getz, professor, founder of the Bible church movement, best-selling author of more than fifty books, including The Measure of a Man and the Men of Character series, and host of the popular radio program, Renewal Radio)

Dr. Sue Edwards

“In Wielding Femininity to the Glory of God, eight high-octane female authors chronicle the dynamic stories of eight women of the Bible. These fascinating biblical characters struggled with twenty-first century women’s issues: lust, sex, distorted sensuality, leadership, abuse of power, idolatry, discontent, discernment, and brokenness, and these authors help us learn from them. This solid study guides women deep into the text, shares well-written, honest stories from the author’s lives, and complements each lesson with a new song to drive truth deeper into hearts. Creative, innovative, and engaging…a new format for a new generation.” (Dr. Sue Edwards, Assistant Professor of Christian Education at Dallas Theological Seminary and author of numerous books on women’s leadership and the Sue Edwards Inductive Bible Study series)

Dr. Sandra Glahn

“Like Godiva for the soul. What truffles are to chocolate lovers, Wielding Femininity to the Glory of God is to women’s Bible studies: rich, habit-forming, and best shared with a friend. But it comes with a warning: You’ve entered the no-fluff zone. Wielding Femininity blends biblical exposition and where-I-live application offered up by a diverse gift-box of women. Readers will keep coming back for more.” (Dr. Sandra Glahn, Adjunct Professor of Christian Education and Pastoral Ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary and author of the popular Coffee Cup Bible study series).

Dr. Darrell Bock

“Usually when one speaks about wielding femininity, my advice is stay out of the way. But the women of Shabby Chic Ministries teach the art of wielding to the glory of God, so my advice is to wield away! Find out the great things God has to say about what women uniquely bring to His Creation.” (Dr. Darrell Bock, Research Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, Corresponding Editor-at-Large of Christianity Today, and New York Times best-selling author of Jesus According to Scripture, Breaking the Da Vinci Code, Dethroning Jesus, and The Missing Gospels)

Angel-WebAngel Angell is a speaker and author for Shabby Chic Ministries. She has served students for over 10 years in various avenues: youth groups, crisis pregnancies, YoungLife, play directing and teaching English.  Her battle cry in it all has been: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the Truth” (3 John 1:4). She is a published educational curriculum writer, conference speaker, and mommy to five children. She holds a double major in English and Theater Arts from Texas A & M University. While she has begun her pursuit of an M.A. from Dallas Theological Seminary, she is in pause mode to focus on her kids. Her passions include live theater, Tex-Mex food, thought-provoking books, laughing with friends and smooching her hubby.

Angela Martin loves meeting and working with God’s people around the world, exploring together the truths found in His Word. Missions – in whatever form they may take – are bred into this preacher-daughter’s heart. A zillion church services, twelve years of foundational Christian education and a Christian liberal arts university never go unused. Angela likes high heels, can cook over a campfire, and drives a convertible named Mia. She’s married to a former cowboy and says her long-suffering husband has the skills to pull her through an apocalypse. “Gobstopped by God’s grace,” she desires to model the liberty found and grown in following hard after Jesus. She loves watching God turn our messy lives into His masterpiece. Angela has co-authored and assisted on several books and has written for and been on the staff of some of the country’s leading newspapers. She is on the writing and editing team of Shabby Chic Ministries and serves as Program Ministry Coordinator. She is eternally grateful to a God who takes her offerings and transforms them into impact. Her life verse still is one she chose back in summer camp as a young girl: “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Brittany Burnette serves as the Associate Dean of Distance Education for Faculty and Curriculum Development and an associate professor of Christian Education at the College of Biblical Studies – Houston. She lived in Seoul, Korea for two years, where she earned her black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She is also a co-editor of A Reader’s Lexicon of Apostolic Fathers with Dr. Daniel B. Wallace and Terri Darby Moore (2013). She also served as a research assistant to Dr. Darrell Bock for: Jesus According to Scripture (2002), Jesus in Context (2005), The Missing Gospels (2006), and The Baker Exegetical Commentary on Acts (2007). She holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Yale University, a Th.M. in New Testament and Systematic Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. in Christian Education from Dallas Seminary. She is a rabid tennis fan and an unapologetic caffeine addict. Brittany serves as a Theology Coordinator, teacher, and contributing author for Shabby Chic Ministries.

Gloria-WebGloria Irving is a missionary, speaker and storyteller who travels the world proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. She is the mother of four grown daughters, two adopted, who she lovingly refers to as her “first mission field.” Gloria serves as the Missions Director at First Baptist Euless. She holds a B.A. in Business Administration and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Dallas Christian College. She has a Graduate Certification in Women’s Leadership from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) and is certified through Christian Leaders, Authors and Speaker Services (CLASServices Inc.). She is currently pursuing a Masters in Theological Studies from SWBTS. For more than 10 years, her message has encouraged women to recognize who they are in Christ and to trust God’s promises in the uncertainty of their circumstances. Gloria is a contributing writer and teacher for Shabby Chic Ministries, and it is her heart’s desire to fall deeper in love with Jesus every day and to stir the same desire in women. She enjoys worshiping, country western dancing and salsa!

Michelle-WebMichele deMiranda serves as Shabby Chic Ministries Curriculum Coordinator, Teacher and Contributing Author. Outside of the ministry, she is the Director of First Kids Weekday Preschool at First Baptist Richardson. She is also Executive Chef, Pretend-Play Expert and Chief Homework Enforcer at the House of de Miranda. Previously, Michele worked in the Creative Services department at the corporate headquarters for Mary Kay Inc. She is also a former Senior Editor for The Education Center where she wrote books and magazines for teachers.  She holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Virginia and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Vanderbilt. She loves modern dance and was a member of Sanspointe Dance Company in Birmingham, Alabama. She loves cooking healthy organic meals, forming friendships with a diversity of people, and sharing the extraordinary Truth of Jesus in ordinary, everyday moments. In 2002, she married her neighbor and best friend, Kevin, whose grace and compassion inspire her to love others as Christ has loved us (John 13:34).

Rani-WebRani Yangad serves as India Coordinator and Contributing Author for Shabby Chic Ministries. Rani grew up in Aurangabad, India, and her father broke familial ties to Hinduism after Jesus made Himself miraculously known in his life. His daughter, Rani, also became a believer in Christ at the age of nine. Rani speaks Marathi and English. She received her Bachelors in Medicine in India. She married Jayesh, through a traditional Indian arranged marriage. She is a full-time mommy of three with a mission. She wants to show her children and the world the love of Christ. Rani graduated from Dallas Seminary with a Masters in Biblical Counseling. It is her passion to meet women’s needs in a holistic way-spiritually, physically and mentally. She’s taught seminars on depression, abstinence, and other psychological issues among women in Central America, Mexico, and Nepal. She shares her testimony at Bible studies with the hopes that nonbelievers and new believers will hear. She and her family live in India reaching the lost and equipping leaders.

Stacie Bostic pays the bills doing project management stuff but she is also blessed to serve as a church counselor and as a college and career connection teacher at Liberty Baptist Church. She loves to engage the hearts and souls of women of all ages through sharing her story and passion for Jesus. Gathering with women in diverse settings is a joy – youth retreats, seminars, luncheons, and conferences – all are an opportunity to encourage others to surrender to God’s purpose. Because she feels so strongly about praise, worship, and the power of God’s word, she founded Girl Power in 2009 in Gun Barrel City, Texas in order to connect “girls of all ages” to God’s word and fellowship. Stacie’s desire, ultimate and consuming, is to remain Kingdom-focused and to live a transformed life, in order to “prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2) Her resume, her bio, her motto, her epithet: Stacie loves Jesus. Lots.

Adrianne-WebAdrianne Schwanke is a shabby sinner saved by grace. She roamed high school and university classrooms and the streets of New York searching for something to fill that ethereal hole in her heart. She grew up in the Bible belt but often fell asleep in the bathrooms rather than stay in church services. A friend invited her to an MTV Bible study (ironic, yeah, we know). Through struggles paired with this invitation, Adrianne began to realize that God Himself was the missing element of her heart. She encountered the Living God at a Passion conference in Austin, Texas. And God infused a passion for His glory into her heart that redirected her purpose and calling to lead others. She had a new found discipline to complete a B.B.A. from Texas A&M University and eventually met her husband while attending Dallas Seminary. She holds a M.A. in Biblical Studies but the heart of God tighter than any credential. Her husband’s blue eyes and swim-butterfly stroke stole her attention, but his servant leadership kept it. Her husband served as a mission’s pastor for over a decade. Now that their family has expanded with four children, he has transitioned toward a missional community leader of their family and business communities They both share a passion to influence a movement toward cross-cultural missions until it is on earth as it is in heaven: every tribe and tongue worshipping before the Lamb. Adrianne founded and serves as Executive Director-Producer of Shabby Chic Ministries.

Shabby Chic Ministries: Bible Study Preview

Las Shabby Chicas: LOCAL

Envision This:

Church A and Church B on the same block. Both groups love God, but there’s an invisible divide. Perhaps denominational, cultural, or generational line keeping each to their own side of the proverbial street. But what if Group A invited Group B to join them for an worship night, bible study series, or collaborative event? Some biblical teaching, break out sessions, prayer and small group discussion over chocolate souffle… about new ways we  might worship and serve … even stronger, together.

Shabby Chic Ministries facilitates this  worship-driven, kingdom conversation.

Through biblical teaching from Wielding Femininity to the Glory of God or How to Pour Your Man a Drink Bible studies and vulnerable, quirky stories from women across these divides, together we can invite women to reconsider their own community needs and dreams in light of Christ. Topics and follow up small group interaction revolve around biblical femininity, targeted prayer, purity in singleness and marriage, cross-cultural and denominational unity, identity in Christ, grace-based obedience, service, and reconciliation.

Shabby Chic Ministries re-frames the vintage Truth for women on both sides of the  aisle.

Our team spans multiple evangelical denominations and cultural backgrounds, but we share one vision: armies of women from “every tribe and tongue” becoming bored with the idea that women were somehow created to be an ornament for an arm or an object for a display shelf. We see women so fixated on God’s greatness and grace in their lives that they submit to His authority and become more and more transformed into the living image of Christ. Women surrendered to God become mighty instruments in His hands to build up each other, families and communities. But the enemy steals our attention with competitive, divisive distractions. That is why we have a call to feminine arms to wake up and raise up in purity and unity to engage our cities.

Would you like  to enter a dialogue about how to engage your youth group, women’s ministry, or group might engage the battle?

Every group, ministry and church battle is unique, so their strategy deserves prayer, recon and creative brainstorming: One youth group might be called to invite the rival school’s youth group for an outreach night. Another women’s ministry might be called to organize a brunch with the ministry from another denomination down the street to collaboratively discuss new ways to reach their collective community. One church might host a prayer conference and conversation to just ask  the question: “Why is our Sunday still the most segregated of the week?” Imagine what God could do if we just started the conversation.

How to Pour Your Man a Drink™: Love and Loss at the Biblical well study takes an in-depth look at biblical women and the relationships they encounter at wells, such as the Samaritan woman and Jesus, Rebekah and Isaac, etc.  Through creative biblical curriculum, authentic personal testimonies, and relevant life applications, this Bible study will challenge women to draw from the Living Water of Christ today so that they pour out a clean drink to the men and others in their lives. Apart from the Holy Spirit women will draw from the stagnant wells of this world and have little more than a dirty martini of sin and shame to offer a husband, a boyfriend, friends or family. But when we from Christ, we have a River of resources to draw from and in turn pour out God’s love upon His Church and upon the lost.

Shabby Chic Ministries is revamping our site now to prepare for more study releases past Dallas, McKinney and Rockwall and to the nations. Please join us in prayer as we reposition our hearts and website for the next level release of this new Bible study-coordinated music CD! Studies are wrapping up and starting for the Fall.

Wielding Femininity To the Glory of God®

Bible Study & Coordinated Music CD

Magazine headlines like “10 Ways to Steal His Attention” capture women loitering in grocery lines. Lyrics like “I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It” slither into our minds with a flip of the radio dial. Media teaches that all is fair in love and lust and the woman with the tightest tee-shirt wins. But when men, money, and the mirror fail us and our feminine wiles betray us, God rescues. Jesus reclaims. The Holy Spirit retrains us to “wield our femininity”—not our wiles—to the glory of God.

But for those who are stuck in between wielding our wiles and wielding a mighty witness for Christ, we resonate with the temptations of biblical women like Eve, Deborah, Delilah, Abigail, Jezebel, the Shulammite, Hannah, and Potiphar’s wife. They faced the same struggles that we face today. They grieved. We grieve. They doubted. We doubt. They felt the pull of lust. We feel it still.

In Wielding Femininity to the Glory of God®, the writing team of Shabby Chic Ministries delves into the lives of these eight biblical women and resurfaces how the women of the Bible did or did not wield their femininity in a way that honored God. Then the authors reframe the vintage truth for women today.

Each chapter study blends expositional, verse-by-verse interaction with the Old Testament and relevant, vulnerable stories from the various women of Shabby Chic Ministries. Readers will be challenged to remove the world’s seductive messages from their leopard-print purses and to refill them with eight arrows of Truth—”Words to Wield.”
